I've been told by a plumber that it is impossible to fit a mixer tap with shower in my bathroom?

i've been told by a plumber that it is impossible to fit a mixer tap with shower in my bathroom because i have a combi boiler. He said if he did fit a mixer with shower it would only produce scalding hot water. Is this true or are they just trying to make the job easier for themselves.
