The mask of western electoral democracy has been removed by the banking frauds.?

It has often been stated that the first responsibility of government is to defend the state and the ordinary people take this to mean that the state will protect them.They will vote for the party which they think best serves their interests.Comes the great banking scandals of recent years the people learned the truth.Financial institutions playing with the hopes,dreams and money of the citizens managed to lose the lot(except their on money making abilities).Did any western state protect the people?Like hell they did:they gave all the money to the banks and what remains in our accounts has lost much of it's buying power.No government in the west protected it's electorate.So please convince me that I have it wrong :that the peoples vote matters!
