How do I reconcile my experiences with out of body and astral projection with being an atheist?

This question is like my biggest paradox. I can recall in great and extensive detail of my out of body experiences and astral travel and projections as actual real phenomenon. However, I am not a religious or a philosophical person, and I am also inclined to accept science and the evolution theory for the origins of life and the universe. However, I am aware that science hasn't unraveled all of the brain's "mysteries" and that is still much unknown about human consciousness.
